Helen Kellers Early Life
Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Helen Keller was the first of two daughters born to Arthur H. Keller and Katherine Adams Keller. Helen also had two older step brothers In 1882, Helen became ill. This illness was caller “Brain fever”. The true nature of the illness remains a mystery, though some experts believe it might have been scarlet fever or meningitis.
After a few days after the fever broke, Helen’s mother noticed that Helen did not show any reaction when the dinner bell was rung or when a hand was waved in front of her face. Keller had lost both her sight and hearing. Helen was only 18 months old. In 1882, Helen was struck blind, deaf and mute. Keller was born perfect. She had her senses of sight and hearing, and started talking when she was just 6 months old. She started walking at the age of 1. It all changed when she was ill.
